“Smart Regions through the Use of IoT Technologies” offered useful insights into how IoT technology is shaping the future of smart and sustainable regions
On October 10, the Data2Sustain event, “Smart Regions through the Use of IoT Technologies,” took place both in-person at Colab, Letterkenny, and online. The event hosted by ERNACT focused on how the Internet of Things (IoT) is helping to create smarter, more sustainable communities. Experts shared real-life examples of how IoT is improving local services and infrastructure.
Jose Manuel San Emeterio from ERNACT welcomed everyone and introduced the speakers. Mike Conroy from Atlantic Technological University (ATU) explained the Data2Sustain project and its goals. Stephen Seawright from WiSAR Lab then talked about new technology developments in IoT.
Daragh McDonough from Donegal County Council shared how IoT is being used locally to monitor rivers, maintain roads, and give data on footfall at tourist sites along with the practical issues on deployment and maintenance. Sean Noone CEO of WESTIRE showed how smart city platforms can control public lighting to save substantially on energy. Ciarán Ó Bréartúin from mSemicon discussed how IoT is making services like waste management and city maintenance better for citizens.
The event ended with a Q&A session, where attendees had the chance to ask the experts questions. The session offered useful insights into how IoT technology is shaping the future of smart and sustainable regions.
